By Andrew Jackson, IT Manager at DAC Systems

While many people may feel that a job is simply a job, at DAC Systems it is so much more than that. While I cannot speak on behalf of every employee at the organisation, working at DAC is about creating a career for yourself in a fast-paced industry sector. It is also about building close connections with co-workers who become friends and support you in all areas of your life.

One of my favourite things about working at DAC is that leadership expect employees to be innovative and grow their knowledge of the technology used to assist clients. Upskilling and reskilling are vital elements of the business DNA.

The organisation is also incredibly flexible. For instance, during the hard lockdown instituted in South Africa due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, we could easily migrate to working from anywhere whether that was from home, another city, or even a different continent altogether. The organisation also provided employees with the platform to learn new skills. Even during lockdown conditions, it was possible for us to get together (virtually) and have a few laughs and share our personal experiences of the ‘new’ world.

People first

There is an argument to be made about working with people you like. And because this makes the work environment a more pleasant one, people will be more productive and happier at their job. This is very true of the DAC environment.

There are many positive effects of working with people who are nice to one another. Such a positive environment makes the day-to-day tasks feel less stressful, so you can focus on getting your work done. It is the nature of the beast that not every task is necessarily a pleasant one, but having co-workers around you who are happier, makes for less of a grind. Furthermore, there is much less conflict with people looking to find collaborative ways of overcoming obstacles.

Instead of fighting or arguing, they will try to produce a solution together. At DAC, your co-workers really become those friends that makes you feel appreciated. The benefit of this is you grow immeasurably as an individual in the process.

Working environment

It goes without saying that the work environment at DAC Systems is great. It has given me the opportunity to explore my skills in the ICT field. I have also had many opportunities to visit various parts of the country for client projects and company team building adventures with colleagues.

Of course, I enjoy working for DAC. The company has a well-defined structure and standards in place. But it also gives people the opportunity to easily engage with other staff, managers, and directors. It really is a case of a big family working towards the same goal with every individual making a difference and being treated fairly.

When experiencing a problem, it is easy to reach out to someone and collaborate on a solution. There is always someone willing to help or give you advice on the topic.
