This year Mugg & Bean have outdone last year’s generosity through their latest donation of R500 000 to the Nkomazi trust; may God bless them for their generosity.
The Nkomazi trust is a South African success story. A win-win scheme which offers companies Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment opportunities through the trust’s ownership of those companies shares; in return, the beneficiaries of the trust are approximately 4500 orphans located in the area. The trust was started as a community upliftment project through the provision of basic needs such as food and sanitation and in the past two years has grown to include sponsoring successful orphan candidates with university bursaries.
Presently, 22% of Dac Systems is owned by the Nkomazi trust with two Dac Systems directors holding the position of trustee on a eight strong trustee partnership. Five of the trustees herald from the Nkomazi community.
The Nkomazi trust, Bryanston Bible Church and Dac Systems have partnered over the past 5 years to take on many initiatives in the area, including house building trips for orphan headed homes, community care walks, kids clubs, feeding schemes, women empowerment projects and micro business development. To keep Dac Systems’ heart for the poor as part of the company culture and vision of the staff, Dac Systems takes their staff and families on a yearly "Span Bou" to be a part of the house building projects.
As Gary Carter, the Chairman and founder, says after a hard day of house building, "There’s nothing quite like mixing cement to bring our IT teams together".
